Do I have to be in good shape before I start?

No, you will get into shape as you train. We have a series of exercises that you will learn as you progress through the ranking system which will enable you to perform the judo techniques.

I am 31 years old, am I too old to start judo?

No, you are not too old to begin judo training. Judoka (judo players) regularly start from adolecense through their 50's and older. Judo is a practical and effective sport that can be a whole of life activity.

What is the difference between Judo and other martial arts?

Judo is a sport derived from Japanese martial arts. It focuses on physical fitness based upon a strong moral code and code of conduct.

I am very busy with my work schedule, how much time do I need to devote to judo classes?

Judo, like many things, will give you back what you put into it. You are welcome at any of the club sessions whenever you are available. The junior sessions are 1 hour long and senior sessions 90 minutes.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

This depends on the individual. It can take anything from 2 - 10 years.

What sort of things should I consider when choosing a club?

Judo clubs vary enormously in size and scope, it is important for you to feel comfortable in your chosen judo club. The Samurai aims to accommodate all judo activity from recreational junior judo to top quality, competitive judo. You are welcome to visit to sample the friendly, professional, disciplined coaching style at the club.

Do I need to buy a judo suit before I start?

No, we stock a number of judo suits for all sizes which we are happy to loan to you for your first several sessions. The club also supplies suitable beginner judo suits for purchase, child's suits from £25 and for adults suits from £40.
